Basil Casteleyn (18 y.o.)
Cello
Basil Casteleyn is a young cellist for Mortsel. At the age of 9, he started his first cello lessons at the music academy in Mortsel with Marijke Gonnissen, where he currently combines the 4-degree performing musician with the specialisation degree.
After taking a few master classes with Justus Grimm, on the advice of his teacher Marijke and Justus he has also been taking private lessons with Mikko Pablo for several years to further refine his technique and build up additional repertoire.
He was awarded top arts status B by the Flemish government for the 2022-2023 school year, allowing him to prepare extra for future higher studies in Music at the conservatory.
Basil is currently attending Jong Conservatorium Klassiek at the Antwerp Conservatoire.
He is cello leader with the Academic Symphonic Orchestra Mortsel and since the beginning of 2022 has been accepted as cellist with the Euregio Jeugdorkest, a large symphonic orchestra formed by top talents from Flanders and the Netherlands where he can perform the great symphonic works. He often plays chamber music under the direction of Nataliya Chepurenko, director of Brussels International Music Academy (BRIMA).
